BEST OF BREED : BLACKBURN-BENNETT
Stargang Serena's Song Open Dog (10 Entries) Minor Puppy Bitch (6 Entries)
Puppy Bitch (5 Entries) Junior Bitch (11 Entries) Thank you for the invitation to judge & congratulations to the Midland Dachshund Club on their inaugural back to back championship show held in conjunction with the Houndshow. The experience gained having run their open show with Evesham CS for a number of years must have been invaluable. A good entry in both quantity & quality. Where I share the concerns of many due to the rise in popularity of the breed this will hopefully be a boon with the addition of new blood to the fancy keeping competition strong which is key. While I realise weight is now just a fault I was slightly concerned as a few exhibits exceeded 12lbs. My main winners pleased immensely being typy male & female representatives of the breed I felt they looked good together, we all remember that first win so it was lovely to witness the overwhelming joy of the owner of my BP. MPD (4,1a) 1 Dunhills Gellijams Aldanti, promising 6 month b/t baby, pleasing in head, ribbing & construction, good size, front developing nicely, well angulated fore & aft; 2 Beach’s Beachdax Black Magic, much stronger headed dog who coped well with the grass, moved out well covering the ground, not the development of keel or rear angulation of the winner; 3 Barns’ Swingletrees Viva Las Vegas. PD (4) 1 Mitchell’s Bronia Stefano, balanced b/t of good size & proportions, well filled front, sprung ribs & strong rear topped with a good topline kept at all times, well schooled. BPD; 2 G Aldanti; 3 Muggleton’s Mosiarto Mister Valentino. JD (6) 1 Scott’s Wolferlow Will Scarlet, stunning b/t without exaggeration, super size, lovely head & neck, my hands just flowed over him, excels in all departments, shown in gleaming condition, loved him. RCC; 2 Coxon’s Darisca Danish Diplomat, quality red dog, elegant head, reachy neck into clean shoulders, strong topline & powerful rear; 3 Shutt’s Donnadoon Waterloo Sunset. PGD (6,1) 1 Williams’ Wilmerella Wells Fargo, houndy b/t, well proportioned head with a keen eye, good reach of neck, strong bone & feet, had that bit of ground clearance which helped him move out; 2 Fiekes’ Lustrum Cushendall, smaller b/t, not as houndy in outlook, well constructed all through, well filled front, long keel & a true & steady mover; 3 Smith’s Wolferlow Admiral Nelson. LD (6) 1 Protheroe’s Royalmaple Anky Panky, super smart well pigmented red, excelled in front & rear assembly, well conditioned, kept a good outline at all times; 2 Melbourne & Holdsworth’s Melriding Perkin Warbeck, chunky heavier type, deep body, big bone, not as clean over the shoulder as winner; 3 Fiekes’ L;Ustrum Bachelor Boy. OD (10) 1 Mitchell & Antonopoulous’ Ygeia No One Like You, this lovely lad headed a strong class. This dark shaded red shone in the summer sun, all male, all hound but without exaggeration, conical head, height to length ratios spot on, deep keel carried well back, shoulders well angled & set, the desired angulation both ends enabled him to float round the ring, an example of conditioning, carrying just the right bodyweight & muscletone. Delighted to award him his crowning CC; 2 Protheroe’s Ch Grandgables Crafty Lil Devil at Royalmaple, another free moving import. All Dachshund, this elegant red carries his deserved title; 3 Hunt’s Ch Carpaccio Cassablanca. MPB (7) 1 Burton’s Swingletrees Star Arni Dahl, precocious 7 month b/t bitch, not big but everything there, a real poppet, growing all of a piece; 2 West’s Archdax Betty Boop, another very well schooled baby who put up a very good performance for one so young, sweet shaded red with good body, lovely bone & feet; 3 Robertson’s Ravenwood Simply Exquisite. PB (5,1) 1 Logan’s Goblindol Shes A Diva, this young lady is certainly divine, beautifully presented feminine b/t, a true Dachshund, not overdone in any way, I wouldn’t change a thing, she did everything asked of her, a real smasher. Congratulations to her proud owner/breeder on going BPIS; 2 Ergis’ Siouxline Ester Rose, more compact red, well developed front, wonderful ribbing, carried good width all through; 3 Handy’s Pelirroja Goodnight Girl. JB (11,2) Good class which bodes well for the future. 1 Hunt’s Carpaccio Blithe Spirit, quality b/t of beautiful type, very correct & pleased in all departments, balanced bitch with good height to length ratios, well filled front, excellent ribbing. A real showgirl, never gave up & made the class hers; 2 McLennan’s Russteck Curant Bun at Cheguevar, just my cup of tea, would love to own her, a true Dachshund, size, substance, length, gleamed with health & condition, the winner just pulled out the stop at the critical moment; 3 Blackburn’s Stargang Fallen Angel. PGB (14,2) 1 R Currant Bun at C, thank you to my diligent stewards in finding & getting her back into the ring I was so taken with her in the previous class she had to be my winner; 2 Muggleton’s Mosiarto Miss Calculated, red showgirl of substance, excellent keel, chunky bone, strong neat hocks, just lacked the elegance of the winner; 3 Melbourne & Holdsworth’s Stargang Glimmer at Melriding. LB (14,3) What a class, a pleasure to judge, headed by three super bitches. 1 Ergis & Melbourne’s Siouxline Rapunzel with Melriding, gleaming red, totally balanced, just so correct all through & even though she’s not tall she powered round the ring. RCC; 2 Russell’s Russteck Plum Duff, elegant b/t, excellent breed type, shown as all from this kennel in fantastic conditions, they just burst with vitality. I love pedigrees & I see this is yet another by Ch Clentry Black Pudding; 3 Blackburn Bennett’s Stargang Star Anise. OB (8,2) 1 Blackburn Bennett’s Stargang Serenas Song, feminine with substance, this red bitch gleamed in the summer sun, she made for a lovely pair with the best dog. A true Dachshund, full of breed type, so easy to go over, hands flowed. Expertly handled & she just moved with such style & ease over the ground. CC & BOB; 2 Williams’ Ch Manacas Amber Cover at Wilmerella, excellent champion bitch, very soundly constructed, lovely mover, slightly less scope than the winner; 3 Rollinson’s Cwmdarhian Lady Marmalade by Diamondax.
