Reserve Best Puppy in Show

Hunt's Lauralee Miss Marple at Carpaccio

I was delighted to be asked to judge Best in Show for the Midland Dachshund Club on a beautiful sunny summers day at the foot of the Malvern Hills. Many thanks to the committee for the appointment. I am sure those that entered on the day had a great day out in conjunction with the Evesham all breeds open show which the clubs Open Show was being held. Shame the grass had not been cut shorter on the day. In both the Best in Show & Best Puppy in Show line ups I had some very good exhibits and was delighted with the winners. Best in Show: Lockett-Walters & Walters' Ralines The Last Word, 18 month B/C miniature long full of quality, lovely head with the correct expression, ears correctly set, long well arched neck leading into very good shoulders, tight elbows, plenty of fore chest with a good keel that extends well back, ribbing deep & oval, very good top & underlines, short thick loins lead into fabulous hind quarters, very well angulated. Moved beautifully coming & going & looks a picture of elegance in profile with great reach in front & fantastic drive from behind. Beautifully presented with a correct coat she gave an overall picture of excellent breed type & balance which easily made her my Best in Show winner. I am sure she is a Champion in the making - many congratulations to her owners on a lovely bitch - well handled and showed to perfection. Reserve Best in Show: Sorensen's Jethard Just Jive, lovely outgoing dog of correct size, super head and front, good coat texture, lovely outline both on the table and on the move, super hindquarters, was pushed hard for the reserve spot by both the mini smooth and mini wire but loved his drive in movement and outgoing personality, should have a very bright future & I was delighted to award him Reserve Best in Show. Best Puppy in Show: Locket-Walters, Walters: Ralines Royal Rebel, Black & Tan 10 month well developed miniature long puppy, long low and level, super head & eye. Well set ears, lovely reach of neck into well placed shoulders, well ribbed, super coat, handled & moved well, really moved out with purpose in the challenge, delighted to award him Best Puppy in Show. Reserve Best Puppy in Show: Hunt's Lauralee Miss Marple at Carpaccio. 7mth B/T standard smooth bitch. A very well presented puppy of lovely outline. Pleasing head with excellent expression on a long reach of neck. Well laid back shoulders and good angulation both front and rear. Moved with great drive and purpose, showing great rear drive while maintaining her top line. Not as confident as my winner on the table but very pleased to award her Reserve Best Puppy in Show.

Any Variety Dachshund

AV Puppy (3) 1 Hunt's Lauralee Miss Marple at Carpaccio. 2 West's Archidax Betty Boop. Very pretty mini smooth shaded red bitch of great overall balance, good front and correct shoulder placement nice turn of stifle & good rear action. Lovely head and expression, compact but perfectly formed. Should do well. 3 Heptinstall's Kireton Frou Frou, mini smooth.

AV Open O (2,1) 1 Hunt's Carpaccio Blithe Spirit. A lovely mini smooth who I recently judged at championship show level where I awarded her the junior class. Lovely overall construction showed well. I am sure she will soon be gaining her crown, many congratulations to an exhibitor constantly at the top of their game with some lovely dogs.
